Mechanical Engineer
R&D
Tartu/Remote
Full-time
We are seeking a Mechanical Engineer to join our growing engineering team as we expand our product portfolio in unmanned ground vehicles (UGVs) and flying drones (UAVs). This role is ideal for a hands-on, technically driven engineer who can work across disciplines — from R&D to manufacturing and supplier coordination. You will design, prototype, and support production of complex mechanical systems using a variety of materials and manufacturing techniques including plastics, sheet metal, CNC machined parts, welding, and wire harnesses.
You’ll be expected to contribute to the full product development cycle — from initial concept to scalable manufacturing — ensuring that designs are practical, reliable, and manufacturable. This role is key in bridging design intent with real-world production feasibility.
Сore responsibilities
Key Responsibilities:
1. Mechanical Design & Product Development
Design mechanical systems and components for drones and UGVs, considering functionality, robustness, manufacturability, and cost.
Create 3D CAD models, assemblies, and detailed technical drawings using industry-standard tools (e.g., SolidWorks, Fusion 360, or similar).
Support the prototyping phase and iterate designs based on testing, feedback, and performance validation.
Work closely with electrical and systems engineers to ensure seamless mechanical-electrical integration.
2. Manufacturing & Industrialization
Collaborate with the manufacturing team to ensure that designs can be efficiently produced using in-house and outsourced processes (e.g., CNC, sheet metal, injection molding, welding).
Define tolerance stacks, material specifications, and technical documentation to guide internal builds and supplier production.
Participate in DFM (Design for Manufacturability) and DFA (Design for Assembly) reviews.
3. Materials & Integration
Select appropriate materials for strength, weight, environmental durability, and manufacturability, depending on the application (plastics, metals, composites, etc.).
Design and route mechanical interfaces for wiring, connectors, enclosures, and thermal management components.
Key Competencies & Skills:
Strong 3D CAD modeling and 2D drawing skills (e.g., SolidWorks, Fusion 360, Siemens NX, or equivalent).
Experience working with diverse materials and production techniques: sheet metal, machined parts, weldments, molded plastics, etc.
Understanding of mechanical tolerances, GD&T, and design best practices for complex assemblies.
Experience with wire harness integration, mounting systems, and electromechanical packaging is a strong plus.
Hands-on problem-solving attitude with a focus on delivering manufacturable and scalable solutions.
Clear communication and collaboration skills across teams (R&D, manufacturing, suppliers).
Preferred Qualifications:
Education: Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics, Industrial Engineering, or a related field.
Experience: 2–5+ years in mechanical design, preferably in robotics, drones, automotive, aerospace, or consumer electronics.
Experience in start-ups or fast-paced environments is a strong advantage.
Familiarity with PDM/PLM tools and version-controlled CAD workflows is a plus.
What We Offer:
A chance to work at the forefront of robotics and unmanned systems development.
A hands-on role with ownership across the full product lifecycle.
An international, growth-focused environment with a passionate team of engineers and innovators.
Opportunities to grow with the company as our product portfolio expands globally.
